'Roger Corman's Revenge' would have been a shorter title. The second and final part of this deep dive into B-movies influenced by 'Alien'. I know 'Creatures of the Abyss' isn’t an Alien knock off, but it is a masterpiece and it has much in common. More importantly I didn't want to start with 'Alien Terminator' because it's rubbish. Ah when movies were fun and didn't take themselves seriously. You can feel the director winking at the audience saying we know it's dumb but we all having fun. I love this era.

I like Grizzly, but I love The Car, Alligator, and Piranha. Alligator while cashing in on the fad wasn't really a rip off. I really did it's own thing.

The amount of bigotry, racism, misogyny and general hatred of women in Hollywood (both in front of and behind the camera) will never cease to amaze me. The fact that many of these movies were allowed to be green-lit, filmed and distributed without a care in the world for their content shows just how deep much of Hollywood's racial erasure (blackface and the like), white savior complexes and cultural appropriation went (and, in many cases, still goes). Especially when it comes to productions outside the US (or those that are co-produced), as they somehow are worse.

Another brilliantly produced and narrated upload. As I was just a lad when these were released, I’ve a never had much an opportunity or heard of many. My folks didn’t have cable, if they ever appeared there and broadcast television definitely never would have aired the like. Blonde and Brunette Buxom broads barring their cleavage and Broad Chested Barbarians Brandishing Cleaving Broadswords! …what’s not to love? I do remember fondly as a prepubescent youth staying up on weekends to watch GLOW - which would come on before? Or after Benny Hill of all shows HA. Such programming instilled a stirring in the young boy. Anyhow, I’ll definitely Need to check these out with the missus or the boy. Cheers

Conan still holds up. It is greatly helped by 1. Cinematography and production design. It looks like it had actual money behind it. Everything isn't shot in a cramped hallway or dense forest. 2. One of the best musical scores ever in a film 3. A sparse script that gives its non-actors few opportunities to introduce unintentional comedy.

The selling point of these movies at the time was usually a pretty girl and some boobs, pretty much taking over from Hammer horror in that department. Every now and then something watchable would turn up (i enjoyed Deathstalker). Fire and Ice got a limited run comic book series last year which was pretty good. As of posting just found a HQ version of The Sorceress on UA-cam. Cool, I'm guessing it won't stay up long.

I am kinda trying ro remember a horrbile movie, maybe was called alien evolution something and it should be around 2003/4/5 not really sure. I just remember that a group of astronauts come back to earth and find tha some aliens ant or praying mantis shape takes over the planet. Maybe I am confused a bit but not on the years and the insect thing

In the anime department, I'd say Legend of Lemnear qualifies for this. Kaiserbeamz' "Kyoto Video" series did a review of it, so look that up if you're interested. In prose at least, the "Sword and Sorcery" subgenre does seem to be making a modest comeback with the "New Edge" movement, which tries to adapt it to modern sensibilities.

"The Postman" must be the ultimate, high-dollar egosploitation movie. (Writer/director/star) Kevin Costner walks into a post-apocalyptic town, a total stranger, and the local kids literally break into spontaneous recitals of "America the beautiful", coz he's just THAT inspiring. Local women straight-up beg Kev for his sperm... WITH their husband's approval, because he's just THAT great of a guy!!! Costner was the ultimate savior, in al the 90s movies he directed/starred in. He stated off small, merely being white savior of an Indian tribe in 'Dances With Wolves'. But next two movies, he single-handed saved the entire world. I know he got dunked on a lot for Waterworld. But The Postman is truly superhuman self-glazing. Even Segall never got THAT ambitious, in deep-throating himself.
